Elections showed division in Moldovan society deepened, opinions

The results of the November 30 parliamentary elections showed that the division in Moldovan society has deepened. Such conclusions were formulated in the program “Place for dialogue” on the public station Radio Moldova, IPN reports.

Director of the Resource Center for Human Rights Sergiu Ostaf said the situation remains tense and things stand rather bad. “The election outcome shows that society is divided, while the political and economic systems remained rather fragile. This state of affairs is mainly due to the Russian media propaganda, the politicians-traitors and the inefficiency of the ruling political forces,” he stated.

Sergiu Ostaf believes that the reserved attitude of the European officials towards the election results is due to their disappointment that almost half of the voters chose the Eastern course. “The message that the voters transmitted to the pro-European parties was a painful and harsh one. The people expected more from these parties. Now the three pro-European parties must change their way of working and must pay increased attention to the areas with serious shortcomings,” he said.

Political analyst Olga Nicolenco said the European partners were disappointed by the outcome of the elections in Moldova and became skeptical. “After the Europeans during four years allocated large amounts of money for different social projects in our country, in the end almost half of the voters chose the Eastern development course. Regrettably, our people didn’t appreciate this. They only ask “What do I get?”. I consider we must see the things done, not only the money provided to us,” she stated.

The expert also said that the negotiations on the formation of a pro-European alliance should be harsher. “It’s good that there were such individuals as Renato Usatyi in the election campaign as the pro-European parties saw an enemy in him and thus united around the European integration idea and didn’t attack each other in the electron campaign. Otherwise they would have lost votes. The negotiations should be now harsher so as to mobilize the politicians and make them work more efficiently,” stated Olga Nicolenco.
