Between November 22 and December 1, Romanian citizens, including those from the Republic of Moldova who hold Romanian passports, are expected to vote in the election of Romania's president, deputies and senators. This year's elections mark the end of an intense election year in Romania, with four types of elections held, IPN reports.
Moldova will have 59 polling stations for both presidential and parliamentary elections. 17 polling stations will be open in northern Moldova, 34 in the central region (16 in Chisinau), 8 in the south.
The polling stations will be open for both Moldovan Romanians and those who vote by correspondence. It is important to note that, for the parliamentary elections in Romania, Moldovans with Romanian citizenship will also be able to vote in a bicameral system, with two ballot papers - one for the Senate and one for the Chamber of Deputies.
Romanians in the Republic of Moldova will choose on November 24, with a possible second round on December 8, from a list of 14 candidates for the office of President of Romania.
In addition to the presidential elections, Moldovan Romanians will also elect members of the Romanian Parliament. They will take place on December 1, Romania's National Day. Thirty-one political parties will run for the 136 seats in the Senate and 50 parties for the 329 seats in the Chamber of Deputies.
Several Moldovans with Romanian citizenship are on the lists of candidates for the Romanian Parliament: Iurie Ciocan (Social Democratic Party), Boris Volosatii (Alliance for the Unity of Romanians), Vasile Costiuc (Democratia Acasă Party), Ion Iovcev (Force of the Right), Leonid Boaghi (Force of the Right), Mihail Vinogradov (SOS Romania) and Alina Zamăneneagră (SOS Romania).
For the presidential elections, Moldovans with Romanian citizenship will be able to vote on November 22 from 12:00 to 21:00 and on November 23 and 24 from 07:00 to 21:00.
Voting for parliamentary elections will take place on two days: November 30 and December 1, between 07:00 and 21:00.
In addition, Moldovans who are unable to vote physically can choose postal voting, introduced in 2019. In 2020, almost 7 000 Romanian citizens used this option, but in Moldova only 17 people voted this way.
The 2024 elections will decide Romania's president for the next 5 years and the new Parliament for the next 4 years. The Romanian Parliament consists of two chambers - the Senate (136 seats) and the Chamber of Deputies (329 seats).
