Elections in Romania: 11 candidates will be on ballot

Eleven candidates will be on the ballot papers in the Romanian presidential election of this May, IPN reports.

The first round of voting will take place on May 4 and, if no candidate gathers a majority of votes, a runoff will be held on May 18, with the first two candidates with most votes obtained in the first round.

The Romanians will be able to cast their vote for one of the following candidates: Nicușor Dan (independent candidate), Crin Antonescu (Romania Forward Alliance), Victor Ponta (independent candidate), Elena Lasconi (USR), George Simion (AUR), Lavinia Sandru (PUSL), Cristian Terheș (Romanian National Conservative Party), John-Ion Banu-Muscel (independent candidate), Silviu Predoiu (National Action League Party), Daniel Funeriu (independent candidate), Sebastian Constantin Popescu (New Romania Party).

In the diaspora, the Romanians can vote for three days, on May 2, 3 and 4. For the first time, the Romanian citizens will no longer be able to vote on election Sunday by 09:00 p.m. local time, as until now. On Sunday, polling stations abroad will close at 09:00 p.m. local time in Romania.

According to the decision of the Permanent Electoral Authority, the Romanians who are abroad on the day of voting could vote at one of the polling stations established outside Romania, whether or not they were included in the Electoral Register as a voter abroad.
