The mixed electoral system is a novelty for the Republic of Moldova, which set down new rules for electing MPs. Of the 101 MPs, 51 will be elected in single-member constituencies, with the candidate who will gather the largest number of votes in a constituency being declared the winner. Another 50 MPs will be elected under party lists in the national constituency, as until now.

Under the Government decision of November 15, 2017, there will be established 51 permanent single-member constituencies. A number of 48 constituencies will be established on Moldova’s territory, while three outside it. Eleven constituencies will be set up in Chisinau municipality. By two constituencies will be established in Balti municipality and in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia. Another two constituencies of the 48 will be created in Transnistrian - one for Camenca, Rabnita, Dubasari, and Grigoriopol, and the other one for Slobozia, Tiraspol municipality and Tighina. Of the three constituencies intended for the diaspora, one constituency will be established eastwards of Moldova, another one westwards of Moldova and the third for the Unites States of America and Canada.

The single-member constituencies have a relatively equal number of voters, 55,000 – 60,000 persons with the right to vote. The number of voters put on the electoral registers at each polling place at the last general elections will be used when forming single-member constituencies. The two permanent single-member constituencies in the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia were established taking into account the administrative borders of the region.

The citizens can check at what polling place they can vote on the website of the Central Election Commision. In the division Check out: State Register of Voters or the direct link: www.verifica.cec.md, the person will introduce the 13-digit identification number from the identity card. Besides the number of the polling place, the person will also learn the number of the electoral constituency where this can vote. The voters who do not have access to the Internet can obtain information through the CEC’s Call Center on: (022) 88-01-01.
