Elections in Gagauzia can be validated

The voter turnout at the elections in Gagauzia was 52% at 6:30pm. Thus, the elections can be validated. Under the region’s legislation, the election results are validated if the voter turnout is minimum 50% those written on the voter rolls, IPN reports.

The head of the Comrat Election Commission Valentin Cara told a news conference that the voters in Comrat were the most active. At 6:30pm, the voter turnout there was 53.6%. In Ceadir-Lunga it was 51%, while in Vulcanesti– 49.9%.

Valentin Cara also said that the Gagauzia Prosecutor’s Office sent all the materials concerning the theft of about 100 ballots from a polling place to the Comrat Police Inspectorate, asking investigating all the circumstances in which the ballots went missing. It also asked investigating the damaging of the voting stamp in Dezghingea village.

According to the Comrat Center “Piligrim-Demo”, which is monitoring the elections, there were recorded no major incidents in the voting process, except for the disappearance of the about 100 ballots and the damaging of the voting stamp in Dezghingea. Also, a number of voters in Vulcanesti made public their vote in the polling place. The Center’s observers in three villages reported campaigning in favor of some of the candidates. In another three settlements, they tried to influence the voting.

The 65 polling places established for the Governor elections in Gagauzia will work until 9pm.
