Elections for local and district councils start in Transnistria
Polling places have been opened today in the Transnistrian region for the voters who will not be able to make their choices on March 28 for certain reasons. The ballots cast by these voters will be kept in sealed envelopes and then put in ballot boxes on the election day, Info-Prim Neo's correspondent in Tiraspol reports.
A number of 661 candidates run for posts in the local and district councils. To be able to vote before the election day, the voters must submit an application to the district electoral commission.
The electoral district No. 22 in Tiraspol received no application yet, said the district's head Natalia Bejenar. However, persons filed applications, asking that they be allowed to vote at home.
The March 28 elections in the breakaway republic of Transnistria will be monitored by observers from Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Nagorno-Karabakh and Russia.
