Acting President Mihai Ghimpu believes the early legislative elections could be conducted earlier than on November 14, the date recently announced by Deputy Speaker Alexandr Stoianoglo citing discussions within the Alliance for European Integration, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mihai Ghimpu says the early elections could take place earlier if the constitutional referendum is held on the first Sunday in September – Sep. 5. According to the proposal submitted to the Constitutional Court for expertise, the distance between the referendum and the elections should be at least 60 days. “It is desired that the referendum is held in mild weather, because then the rains will come, which is not the most pleasant period for going to the polling station or for meeting with the voters”, said the acting president.
