The Coalition for Free and Fair Elections is recommending Parliament to announce the date of the local elections reasonably beforehand, so as to allow sufficient time for preparations for the relevant authorities and civil society. In a statement issued to mark the Global Elections Day on the first Thursday of February, the Coalition pays the attention of the Central Election Commission to the obligation to compile electoral rolls on time, offering its support in monitoring the electoral processes. The Coalition also calls on the authorities of the country to consult civil society actors in improving the electoral legislation. Another recommendation to Parliament is to urgently introduce on its agenda the issue on the appointment of the Central Election Commission's members based on the principles of competence and continuity, which the institution needs in light of the local general elections this year. The Coalition for Free and Fair Elections is a voluntary union of over 80 Moldovan NGOs which seek to contribute to the organization of free, fair, transparent and democratic elections in Moldova.
