“The results achieved in the snap parliamentary elections of July 11 are a huge chance for anchoring the Republic of Moldova in an irreversible European path,” Romania’s Ambassador in Chisinau Daniel Ioniță stated in a meeting with Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, IPN reports, quoting a press release.
At the start of the meeting, the diplomat transmitted a congratulatory letter from the President of the Senate of Romania Anca Dragu to Igor Grosu.
The discussions between Igor Grosu and Daniel Ioniță centered on the bilateral relations between Romania and Moldova and the new legislative body’s priorities. Igor Grosu noted that Parliament has an ambitious agenda and the fight against corruption and the building of the rule of law are among its top priorities. He thanked Romania for the considerable support and humanitarian assistance offered to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
The interlocutors also discussed the projects that are to be implemented with the assistance of the Romanian authorities and the stage at which the bilateral energy interconnection project and the Iasi - Ungheni – Chisinau gas pipeline are at present.
Also today, August 9, Daniel Ioniță had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu. The officials conferred on the way of strengthening bilateral cooperation, extension of the Strategic Partnership for the European Integration of the Republic of Moldova and the further development of the privileged Moldovan-Romanian relations.
Given that 30 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Moldova and Romania will be celebrated this year, the interlocutors referred to the organization of a working visit to Bucharest in the nearest future.
