Election of Supreme Court of Justice president postponed again
The Supreme Council of Magistrates put off again the contest to fill the post of president of the Supreme Court of Justice as the quorum was not present. The Council’s chairman Nicolae Timofti said three of the magistrates are on leave, while the others are taking part in seminars abroad, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“At least eight members must be present for the meeting to be considered valid. There were only seven members attending,” said Nicolae Timofti. He added that the three magistrates on leave are Minister of Justice Oleg Efrim, and Nichifor Corochii and Dina Rotarciuc, who may have interrupted the vacation in order to come to the meeting.
The meeting was to examine the applications filed by the candidates for the presidency of the Supreme Court of Justice. They include the chairman of the Supreme Council of Magistrates Nicolae Timofti, judge of the Supreme Court of Justice Constantin Gurschi, acting president of the Supreme Court of Justice Raisa Botezatu, and former president of the Court Ion Muruianu. The last meetings of the Council were proponed after the Security and Information Council had suggested excluding candidate Ion Muruianu owing to the cases lost at the European Court of Human Rights. Ion Muruianu disputed the Service’s appraisal in court.
A new meeting was set for September 13.
