Election date was set and it’s time for PCRM to accept discussions, AEI
The Alliance for European Integration (AEI) invited the Communist Party (PCRM) to discussions to identify a solution for electing the head of state. The discussions will be held at the level of parliamentary working groups, the leaders of the AEI announced Tuesday after the alliance’s meeting, voicing hope the first dialogue will be held today, October 26, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The leader of the Liberal-Democratic Party Vlad Filat said until now the PCRM refused to discuss as the date of the presidential elections wasn’t fixed. “Now we hope the Communist Party will accept the invitation to hold discussions. The alliance agreed that the discussions should be based on a parliamentary platform. In the future, we will set not only the format, but also the conception of the discussions,” said Vlad Filat.
The Democratic leader Marian Lupu said all the parties should now show flexibility and wisdom so that the political stability could be reinstated in Moldova. “We want to discuss with the colleagues from the PCRM on a wide parliamentary platform involving the four parties represented in Parliament. We hope this dialogue will result in a solution,” he stated.
The Liberal Party head Mihai Ghimpu said that every party should realize how important it is to elect the head of state, but not by losing the parliamentary majority. “We cannot overcome the crisis by electing the President and destroying the parliamentary majority. We should not play and hold again early elections,” he stressed, expressing his skepticism about the PCRM’s readiness to resolve the crisis.
The presidential elections will take place on November 18. Marian Lupu remains the AEI’s candidate for the presidency. The PCRM repeatedly said they will never vote Marian Lupu in as head of state.
