The Election Code must be modified or even replaced because most of its provisions are outdated and their inefficiency became evident in a number of elections, said invitees to the talk show “Moldova live” produced by the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
Unaffiliated MP Anatolie Zagorodnyi said he is for changing the electoral system. “The Election Code should be modified, adjusted, but we are short of time. The bill should be proposed for public debates and international appraisal and this will take time. We need a model to borrow, which would suit the people,” he stated.
Secretary general of the Constitutional Court Rodica Secrieru pleaded for a new Election Code. “The Constitutional Court not only once pronounced on a number of articles of the Election Code. At practical level, it will be simpler to draw up a new Election Code. Modifying the current one will imply difficulties,” she said.
Central Election Commission member Sergiu Gurduza also said he is for amending the Election Code. “We need a new Election Code. A number of shortcomings were revealed during the elections. Many of the Code’s provisions run counter to each other,” he stated.
Pavel Postica, programs director at the public association “Promo-LEX”, said the goal of modifying the Election Code is to actually change the electoral system. “The Election Code can be modified without changing the electoral system,” he noted.
