Election budget will be about 70 million lei
There are 65 days left until the local elections. The president of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Iurie Ciocan said there is sufficient time to organize them. The legislative body is yet to adopt amendments to the Election Code. Iurie Ciocan said the amendments are technical in nature and are aimed at specifying the method of applying articles from the electoral legislation, Info-Prim Neo.
The candidates who will run in the elections will be registered at the local level, in every village or town. The local electoral bodies and electoral councils of the first and second levels will be created not later than 55 days before the elections.
Iurie Ciocan predicted that the voter turnout will be rather high, at least 60%. The election budget will be about 70 million lei. According to the CEC president, the local elections are more expensive than the legislative ones as they involve more persons and more procedures.
As to the possibility of holding a constitutional referendum simultaneously with the local elections, Iurie Ciocan said it is possible theoretically. The legislative body has several more days to take such a decision. As in the case of elections, the plebiscite is announced at least 60 days before the referendum day.
