Elderly people to receive by about 200 lei on their day
The elderly persons in need will be offered financial assistance on the International Day for the Elderly that is marked on October 1. In a communiqué, the Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family informs that a sum of 5.2 million lei was allocated from the national population support fund and the Chisinau municipal fund for the purpose, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The recipients are from all the country’s districts and include socially underprivileged and poor persons. The lists were compiled by the local public authorities. A person will receive about 200 lei on average.
A public event themed “Greetings to the Age” will take place in the square of the National Opera House in Chisinau on October 1, between 11.00 and 14.00. It forms part of the campaign “Age Demands Action” that is conducted by the Ministry in cooperation with HelpAge International, the United Nations Population Fund and the Joint Integrated Local Development Program.
The program includes a concert by the Joint Military Orchestra of the Ministry of Defense, an exhibition of photographs about the life of the elderly in Moldova and an exhibit of handicrafts. Members of the Union of People’s Craftsmen of Moldova will give a lesson on how to make jewels and flower arrangements. Volunteers will distribute greeting cards to elderly persons in all the districts of Chisinau.
Moldova takes part in the “Age Demands Action” campaign together with another 50 countries. The event has been celebrated in Moldova for five years in a row. Currently, the elderly represent about 20% of Moldova’s population.
