Elderly couple beaten and robbed in their own house

Two elderly persons from Djoltai village, Ciadar-Lunga district, UTA Gagauzia, were beaten and robbed in their own house, Info-Prim Neo reports with reference to the Interior Ministry’s Press Service. Three young persons, natives of the same village, aged 17, 18 and 21, respectively, are suspected of committing the offence. Investigations have shown that the suspects acted according to a well thought plan, while the victims were chosen after long consideration and selection. So, in the evening of 6 February, the young men with hoods on their heads broke the front door and came into the house of two old persons aged 80 and 81. After beating and threatening them with death, the suspects stole 37,000 lei. The old persons had collected this money for off-days and kept it in a jar hidden in a cupboard. The old men immediately called the Ciadar-Lunga police. The three offenders have been apprehended shortly and the money were given back, the cited source informs. Criminal proceedings were initiated against the suspects under the Penal Code’s article “appropriation in large and very large amounts”. If found guilty, the young persons could spend the next 10 to 25 years in jail.
