Eight movies about people with special needs screened in Chisinau

Eight pictures about persons wit special needs, made in seven countries, were shown within the Film Without Boarders Festival at the Gaudeamus Movie Theater in Chisinau on December 16. Mariana Matfei, PR coordinator of the Association “Motivatie”, has told Info-Prim Neo that the event in Chisinau represents an echo of the Film Without Borders International Festival held in Russia and takes place the third year. This year the movies are new. They were produced in Australia, Argentina, the U.S., France, England, and Russia. There was also screened a picture made by Moldova’s Arti Studio. The movies are about people with disabilities who want to and can lead a decent life. They can have a job, can learn and go in for sports, can love and start a family because they are like everyone else. The aim of the event is to change the people’s attitude to the persons with special needs, who have a great potential and should enjoy equal opportunities in society. The organizers of the event also aim to change the attitude of the persons with special needs, who should become involved in decision making and integrate socially. “Our society does not know the problems faced by the persons with disabilities. The people form impressions about these persons according to stereotypes, do not regard them as personalities and do not know their potential,” said the organizers. The Film Without Borders Festival in Chisinau was organized in partnership with the Gaudeamus Cultural Center and the Moscow-based Association “Perspectiva”, with financial support from the UNDP program “Millennium Development Goals Governance in Action: Catalyzing Human Rights in Social Policies.”
