Eight minibus drivers have been fired

Eight minibus drivers have been fired for repeated violations of regulations, such as stopping in unauthorized areas, ignoring the red traffic lights or breaking the speed limit. 80 other drivers got severe reprimands or warnings, Info-Prim Neo reports. Head of the general division for public transport and communication ways Adrian Boldurescu said during Monday’s City Hall meeting that the issue of overloaded minibuses had ameliorated to some extent, but that was because the passenger flow dropped. Adrian Boldurescu declared that most of the violations take place because the route administrators neglect their duties and don’t check the drivers. An example of this is when some drivers don’t even have their license with them when driving. The inspections have been started by the general division for public transport and communication ways together with the Traffic Police Department after the drivers had requested the fares to be increased. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca replied that increased fares would be considered only if the drivers respected the traffic rules and other laws.
