Educators learn child-centered education principles

Educators and methodologists from all over the country learn child-centered education principles. The training seminars are held as part of the Education for All – Fast Track Initiative implemented by the Ministry of Education and Youth, Info-Prim Neo reports. The series of local seminars started on June 1 in Briceni, Ocnita, Drochia, Sangerei and Cahul and will end on August 22 in Leova and Cantemir. In Chisinau, the seminars took place between June 11 and 13 at Kindergarten No. 216. The educators, as the children, learn to familiarize themselves with the environment and furniture, how to make materials and toys from what they have on hand and practise exercises that they will later do with the children. Aurelia Guzun, of the Educational Program “Step by Step”, which was selected by contest to hold the seminars in Chisinau, said that the courses center on child-centered education methods, while the training activities are held in renovated preschool institutions, in order to learn from the experience accumulated during the first implementation year of the Education for All – Fast Track Initiative. “Overturned cases, clay and dough, puzzles and cubes, leaves and seeds, paper and carioca, plus a new guidebook for teachers and an open mind – these are only some of the materials needed by an educator in the work with the kindergarten children,” said Aurelia Guzun. It is important to shift the stress from the educator onto the child, to satisfy the needs of the child, the trainers say. The project is implemented from a grant provided by the Catalytic Fiduciary Fund. The grant is administered by the World Bank, while the project is implemented by the Ministry of Education and Youth with support from UNESCO and UNICEF.
