Education specialists trained to combat violence in schools

More than 30 specialists of district education divisions are taking part in a two-day training workshop that centers on the prevention of violence against children. The seminars are held in Chisinau and started after the launch of a methodological guide and a collection of regulations on the prevention of violence in education institutions at a news conference, IPN reports.

Rodica Josanu, head of the Law Division of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, said that after the professional training workshop each specialist will transmit the obtained information to their district colleagues, who will pass it on to each teacher of education institutions.

Minister of Education, Culture and Research Monica Babuc noted with regret that the phenomenon of violence between children develops in education institutions. The children who wear eyeglasses are often insulted; those who study better are mistreated, while those who wear older clothes or who do not want to obey group practices are intimidated. “When a child is neglected by a teacher, this is also a form of violence,” stated the minister.

Iosif Moldovanu, executive director of the Child Rights Information and Documentation Center of Moldova, said the methodological guide and the collection of regulations convey a message to communities – that violence should not be tolerated. “The teachers should be helped to understand how this phenomenon manifests itself in education institutions and these should identify and report cases of violence,” he stated.

The methodological guide and the collection of regulations on the prevention of violence in education institutions were issued in 2 000 copies.
