Education process to be resumed on March 16

The National Extraordinary Public Health Commission decided that the education process in Moldova will be restarted on March 16. The process of study will be organized based on three scenarios, depending on the epidemiological situation in each locality. The local extraordinary public health commissions will decide on the teaching and learning methods depending on the alert level in the locality and the coronavirus infection rate per 100,000 people, IPN reports.

The process of study in localities under Green or Yellow Alert will be held with the physical presence of preschoolers and students in classrooms, by strictly obeying the public health norms to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In the localities under Orange Alert, the preschoolers, primary school students, ninth and twelfth graders, students of vocational institutions involved in practice and the last-year university students will be able to attend classes at education institutions. The other students will study remotely.

In the localities under Red Alert, the preschoolers, primary school students and 50% of all the students of ninth and twelfth graders, last-year students of vocational schools and universities will be able to attend classes at education institutions. The other students will study remotely.

Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi said the decision was made taking into account the rising number of infections with SARS-COV-2.

“In accordance with the Education Code, the children younger than ten who remain at home must be mandatorily supervised by an adult. That’s what it was decided that the primary school students will return to classrooms on March 16, but the school administration must make sure that the sanitary restrictions are obeyed,” Aureliu Ciocoi stated in the talk show “Friday with Anatolie Golea” on RTR TV channel.

The leader of the Democratic Party Pavel Filip said he considers the given decision is incorrect. “How to send to school the teachers in such very serious circumstances, when we know that many of them are of an older age?  Other, more developed countries are in harsh lockdown. You will say that they can afford, but our economy does not resist. Do we care about the economy more than about the people? If the economy cannot cope, we must look for money, lend and find it so as to offer assistance to the businesspeople and those who need. I think we should not maintain the economy at the cost of our teachers’ life. We should pump concrete financial assistance into the economy. I believe this decision should be annulled,” stated Pavel Filip.

Ştefan Gligor, the leader of the new political project “Party of Change”, said this decision is mediocre, irresponsible and criminal. “This country hasn’t had appropriate people in public posts for a long period of time,” Ștefan Gligor reacted on social networking sites.
