Education Ministry sets up National Student Council

The Education Ministry constituted the National Student Council. According to acting Minister of Education Maia Sandu, it is very important to involve the students in the self-management process, from the incipient stage, IPN reports.

The National Student Council will consist of 25 fourth-eleventh graders from all the country’s regions. If a student does not have very high grades, but has merits and is supported by the mates, he/she can form part of the new body. The Council will convene quarterly during vacations to discuss problems faced by them, especially those concerning access and quality of education, with the Ministry’s employees and administration. They will also keep in touch with the Ministry’s units over the Internet so as to givee feedback when bills or normative documents are drafted.

”The Ministry will listen to the young people. There were institutionalized mechanisms that make the principals of schools, municipal and district education institutions and the Education Ministry’s employees to listen to and take into account the opinions of the 366,000 students of Moldova,” Maia Sandu said in a news conference. Besides the National Student Council, every education institution will be obliged to create its own school council.

The members of the National Student Council will be selected by contest every year.  This year the contest will take place during April 1 and May 15. The applicants must submit the CV, a motivation letter, and the parents’ consent. The selection commission will comprise representatives of the Ministry of Education and nongovernmental organizations as well as students.
