Education Ministry penalizes heads of three residential institutions

Two directors of residential childcare institutions received severe reprimands, while another one was fired by the Education Ministry as a result of an inspection, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a meeting centering on the inspection results, Valentin Crudu, the head of the General Preschool, Primary and Secondary Education Division, said that some of the directors do not know what’s going on in the institutions they manage and the authorities find out about problems and violations from civil society representatives or mass media reports. The inspected institutions were accused of verbal, physical and sexual violence, neglect and evasion of children. Deputy Minister of Education Tatiana Potang said the heads of residential childcare institutions should immediately inform the Education Ministry about exceptional situations so that it could intervene promptly and deal with the problem. There are 4,884 children in the 50 residential institutions managed by the Education Ministry.
