The Education Ministry has been the target for pressure exerted by representatives of different groups of interest, who are trying to hinder the holding of the Baccalaureate exams in a transparent way, acting Minister of Education Maia Sandu said in a press briefing. “I declare with full responsibility that no pressure will determine us to abandon the correct assessment methods for the interests of the children and parents and for the future of our society,” said the minister, quoted by IPN.
Maia Sandu added that any change to the procedure for holding the Baccalaureate exams will have serious consequences. As a result, there will be affected the admission to higher education establishments.
The Baccalaureate exams this year will be supervised by video cameras. Such a measure is supported by the Education Ministry, but criticized by some, including Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca. He repeatedly pronounced on the issue, saying the Ministry must find other methods to prevent copying rather than by cameras. According to the mayor, the solution proposed by the Ministry makes the students stressed because each of them is suspected of copying from the very beginning.
This year the exams start on June 4. About 100 Baccalaureate centers will be set up all over the country. Each of them will gather by up to 500 students, who will take the exams in halls, gyms and festivity halls.
