Education minister to attend ceremony to hand over buses to Rascani schools
Minister of Education Leonid Bujor on September 6 will take part in the ceremony held to hand over five school buses to the Rascani Division of Education, Youth and Sport and in the opening of the bus stations in Sverdiac and Nihoreni villages, Info-Prim Neo has learned from the Education Ministry.
The buses will take about 600 students to district schools that will be additionally outfitted with information and communication equipment and furniture. The district schools are situated 3-10 kilometers from students' native villages.
The buses will work in Rascani district because a new financing formula is being tested in this territorial-administrative unit within a pilot project. The formula is based on the principle “the money follows the student”. According to the Ministry of Education, this formula will enable to considerably improve the quality of education in the schools of Rascani and Causeni districts. Another five buses have been transmitted to Causeni district.
The school buses are purchased as part of the Quality Education in Rural Areas Project, which is financed by the World Bank. The main objectives of the US$10.17 million project are to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in rural schools, increase access and equity in these schools, increase efficiency in the use of resources, and strengthen education planning and monitoring.
