Education issues east of Nistru stall because of Transnistria’s unwillingness , Loretta Handrabura
Chisinau-Tiraspol confidence-building work groups on educational issues didn’t meet last year. Deputy Minister of Education and head of the Chisinau group, Loretta Handrabura, told Info-Prim Neo the Moldovan side’s meeting proposals were left without any answer.
“The situation of 3-4 years ago is repeating itself. Their representative refuses a meeting, even though I reiterated our willingness to discuss, because there are problems in this domain, both at secondary and tertiary levels, on which we need to find an agreement”, said Loretta Handrabura.
The Deputy Minister of Education thinks that if meetings took place, issues like the admission of pupils from the left side of the Nistru River in Chisinau universities could have been discussed. In the Transnistrian region, pupils attend only 11 classes, while in Chisinau, university admission will be done only with a baccalaureate diploma received after 12 classes.
“Another problem is the accreditation of the Tiraspol University, rejected by both Russia and the European Union”, said Loretta Handrabura.
The studying conditions in Transnistrian lyceums, including in Romanian-teaching ones, are also a great problem. “There are many regional and European projects we’d like to implement together in order to diminish the educational difference, which would benefit the pupils, teachers and the whole society”, she concluded.
