The Central Election Commission (CEC) will ask the administration of education institutions to examine the possibility of registering college and university students with the right to vote at the place of residence. The decision was taken after a meeting of CEC member and representatives of a group of young people. This centered on the participation by students eligible to vote in the November 13 runoff elections, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Commission.

CEC president Alina Russu said the Election Code provisions about the particularities of voting at education institutions where students do not have registration at the domicile or place of residence refer only to the parliamentary elections.

CEC member Vladimir Sarban told the young people who attended the discussion that at the beginning of the electoral period, he asked a group of MPs to examine the possibility of extending the electoral norm that refers to the particularities of student voting in the presidential elections, given that this is exclusively within the competence of Parliament.

The CEC said it is concerned about the creation of conditions so that all the voters are able to exercise their right to vote and will thus ask the education institutions to identify mechanisms for registering the students with the right to vote at the place of residence so that they can vote in the November 13 runoff at polling places in the towns where the university or college is situated. They can also obtain the right to vote certificate at the electoral bureau of the polling place where they are registered. The certificate can be collected until the day before Election Day. This allows voting at any polling place in Moldova.
