Education given by fathers to children cannot be replaced by mothers’ education, psychologist

The education provided by fathers to children cannot be replaced by the education received from mothers because the parents teach the children different life habits. Psychologists say the mother is more protective by nature and teaches the child to be attentive and to withdraw when meeting with something unknown, while the father educates the child in an adventurist spirit and teaches him/her to be confident in the own forces, IPN reports.

According to psychologist Irina Novac, Moldovan culture is late in involving the second parent, the father, in the education of children. Until now the father was excluded from the start from the education of children in traditional families, but time showed that the father actually plays a very important role. “The father in the family means rules, values, decisions. It is the one who deals with changes with great courage and, if the father is not involved in the education process, the children can be more fearful and more emotionally dependent. They can develop less the qualities related to the power of decision, confidence and personal value,” she stated.

The policies that lay emphasis on the father’s involvement in education enable the child to be educated, by complementation, by both of the parents so that this can take decisions in crisis situations, has courage, becomes more conscious of the personal power, knows very well the personal value as this is developed only by the child-father relationship, depending on the child’s sex. “When you know the personal value, confidence in oneself becomes stronger,” said Irina Novac.

The mother, owing to her protective, caring style and affective attitude, usually teaches the child to withdraw when something unknown is met, rather to be dependent on an authority and not to have own initiative.

According to the psychologist, it would be wonderful to have more male teachers and educators. “If a child is not educated by the father as well, there is a risk that this will have not much confidence in oneself when growing older, will be unable to take a decision when necessary and will have an evasive behavior. Furthermore, this will not have the capacity to take risks developed enough and the ability to adjust to new situations and to use initiative,” stated Irina Novac.

Psychologist Ana Niculaes said the involvement of fathers in the education of children is very important given that the fathers have another approach to education. The mothers offer more care, emotional support and protection, while the fathers teach the children to be adventurers and to take risks.

According to her, the boys learn from their fathers how to think and act pragmatically. In the case of girls, their relationship with fathers influences the way in which these will choose the partner. “If the relationship with the father is cold, in the case of girls this creates anxiety and uncertainty in the relations with the opposite sex,” said Ana Niculaes.

She added that the involvement of fathers in the education of children ensures greater harmony in the couple. Quarrels in the family often appear because the fathers devote not enough attention to children. Furthermore, education should not be the burden of one parent only and should be shared by both of the parents.
