Education for All – Fast Track Initiative helps reopen one more kindergarten

A kindergarten reappeared in Peciste village of Rezina district 20 years after the then nursery school was closed. All the 110 children aged between 3 and 6 from the village can go to the kindergarten from January 14, 2010. The kindergarten is located in the building of the former primary school that was repaired and outfitted with furniture, equipment, plates and dishes, carpets, toys, books, teaching aids, playground and sports ground, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a press release, the Ministry of Education says the investments in the renovation and equipment of the kindergarten amounted to 2.7 million lei. The kindergarten was reopened with support from the Ministry of Education, the local administration, UNICEF and the World Bank as part of the Education for All – Fast Track Initiative, which is financed from a Catalytic Fund Grant. The reconstruction works cost about 2.3 million lei. 1.58 million lei of this was allocated by the project. The local public administration contributed 720,000 lei. The villagers did volunteer work, helping with the plastering, painting and laying out of the area. The kindergarten in Peciste village is the 40th kindergarten reopened under the Education for All – Fast Track Initiative Project. The Education for All – Fast Track Initiative is a partnership of developing countries, donor countries and agencies which aims to encourage and enable all countries to meet the core Education for All goal of universal primary school completion by 2015. It also aims to provide increased financial support for education and to link that financial support to improvements in accountability amongst recipient countries.
