Eduard Musuc runs for Mayor of Chisinau
Leader of the Social Democrat Party of Moldova (SDPM) Eduard Musuc will run for the general Mayor of Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Loretta Handrabura, the chairwoman of the SDPM National Council told a news conference about this decision. According to her, the candidacy of Musuc was proposed by the Municipal organisation of SDPM and was supported by the National Council.
Eduard Musuc told the same news conference that the local elections of this year are extremely important. He believes that the opposition parties should establish a peace agreement and create an electoral coalition to defeat the communists and their allies. “We must win the local elections in order to be able to win the parliamentary elections”, Eduard Musuc said.
The parties that fielded candidates for the office of mayor are the Liberal Party (Dorin Chirtoaca) and the Democrat Party (Vladimir Filat). The leader of “Moldova Noastra” Alliance Serfaim Urcheanu stated previously that he does not exclude the possibility of participating in the elections. The leader of the Social Democracy Party has also admitted the possibility of participating in the competition. Oleg Serebrian, the leader of the Social-Liberal Party doubted the fact that the opposition will be able to back a common candidate, as the opposition is fragmented and unpredictable.
According to unconfirmed information, the Communists Party could propose the incumbent interim mayor to this office.
Most probably, the local general elections will take place in early June.
