Eduard Banaruc explains recording broadcast by media outlets

The Government’s deputy secretary general Eduard Banaruc provided explanations over the recording of a telephone conversation of his with Nicolae Vicol, which was disseminated by media outlets. He said that last autumn he received an envelope where there was a flash drive with videos where two alleged employees of the Main State Tax Inspectorate ask for bribe from a company. “I immediately phoned the Inspectorate’s head Nicolae Vicol and gave him the videos so that he took the necessary measures,” Eduard Banaruc says in a press statement, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. “This apparently simple case, at least from the angle of my deeds that were perfectly legal and morally correct, served afterward as a reason for searching my office and for questioning me at the National Anticorruption Center, where I related this case in detail,” said Eduard Banaruc. He also said that after the publication of the recording in the media, he convinced himself that this case was used to denigrate him and the team of which he forms part. “I’m indignant that a perfectly legal action of mine, which was aimed at penalizing two corrupt functionaries, was used in the most repellent and dirtiest way to discredit me,” stated the Government’s deputy secretary general. He called on the mass media not to become involved in political games.
