The Edinet town council has been unable to hold meetings for a period. If the problem is not solved, it will most probably be dissolved in September and new local elections will be called, deputy mayor of Edinet Valerian Ciobanu has told IPN.
“This is an unordinary case. The council in Edinet hasn’t been convened since July 2012”, said Valerian Ciobanu. According to him, 12 Communist and two Liberal-Democratic councilors of the 27 do not come to the meetings and thus the quorum is not present.
Central Election Commission secretary Andrei Volentir has told IPN that there are 898 local councils in Moldova and the commission is unable to monitor all of them. “The mayor of the settlement must inform the CEC when the council is to be dissolved. No notification came from Edinet,” he stated.
The only local council dissolved after the last local general elections was that of Mincenii de Jos village from Rezina district. A new council was elected there in the new local elections of this May.
