An Edineț police officer was arrested while taking a €1,500 bribe, prosecutors say. According to the whistleblower, the investigating officer asked for the money in exchange for covering a drug trafficking case.

The General Prosecutor’s Office says that the officer was assigned the case on August 18. To make it quick and let the suspect go, he allegedly decided to ask for a bribe and pronounce the investigation closed.

Directorate North of the National Anticorruption Center, together with the Balti Municipal Prosecutor’s Office, opened an investigation when tipped off.

The officer was arrested on August 24 in the act of taking the money, as part of a sting operation conducted by the National Anticorruption Center. The man has been placed in preventive arrest for 72 hours.
