A boy of only one from Edinet received serious scalds after he fell into the bath with hot water. He was rushed to the Balti hospital with second- and third-degree scalds on one fourth of the body, but was then transported by the “Aviasan” service to the National Children’s Hospital “Emilian Cotaga” in Chisinau, IPN reports.
The child’s mother put the water in the bath in order to bathe the child. When she went to bring cold water, the boy, who remained unsupervised in the room, fell into the bath, scalding his legs, palms, abdomen and face.
Ala Condrea, head of the emergency admissions division of the Balti hospital, has told IPN that the second- and third-degree scalds for such a small kid are very serious. “Now the child is still in a state of shock. It will be later evident if ne needs surgery or not,” she stated.
Gheorghe Vicol, who heads the burns section of “Emilian Cotaga” Hospital, believes that this and many other accidents could have been avoided if the parents had carefully used the hot water in the house. He warned that no containers with hot water should be left near children and that the kids should not be left alone when the doorbell or telephone rings. There are dangers for children in the home and thus they should be permanently under supervision.
According to statistics of the Ministry of Health, six children under five are injured daily in home accidents. One child younger than five dies weekly.
