Economy Ministry studies ways of modernizing thermoenergy sector in Chisinau

The Ministry of Economy, with the financial support of the World Bank, is finalizing a study on the economic, technological and managerial modernization of the thermoenergy sector in the municipality of Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting Deputy Minister of Economy Ilarion Popa. On the basis of the study, the Ministry will devise a plan of action that will focus on the reorganization of the thermoelectric plants CET-1, CET-2, and Termocom. “In order to restructure the plants and modernize this sector, we must identify a solution to settle the debts that accumulated during many years and prevent the companies operating in this sector from developing normally,” said the deputy minister. It is expected that the implementation of the plan for modernizing the thermoenergy sector will bring new investments to the sector. “At the first stage, we count on investments from international financial organizations, like the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the European Investment Bank,” said Ilarion Popa. The investments needed to modernize the thermoenergy sector in the municipality of Chisinau are estimated at €250-300 million.
