Economy minister optimistic about economic growth

It is possible to maintain the economic growth of 3.5% recorded in the first quarter of this year in the immediate period too. The growth may be even of 5%, considers Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar, IPN reports.

“We cannot annul the last year’s drought that caused considerable damage to agriculture and contributed to a lower GDP. But we can prevent the consequences of the drought by increasing the irrigated areas and implementing soil-friendly technologies and by other measures. In parallel, we need to develop the industries. For the time being, their share in the GDP is low,” the official said in a program on Radio Moldova.

He also said that among the current objectives are to diversify exports and to improve the quality of the exported products. “The rise in internal consumption will enable us to strengthen resistance to possible unfavourable developments on the western and eastern partner markets. It will be obtained by increasing the volume of investments in infrastructure, both from budgetary sources and private ones, and in creating new highly-paying jobs. This goal is among the Government’s priorities for the first 100 days,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.

According to Valeriu Lazar, the business environment will be improved and favourable conditions will be created to attract local and foreign investments to the economy by the concerted effort of all the state institutions.
