Economy Minister calls for urgent action in RED-Nord case
Economy Minister Valeriu Lazar has requested Prime Minister Vlad Filat to urgently convene the Government's Commission on the Energy Sector, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The request is related to the fact that on February 17 the bank accounts of the power supplier RED-Nord were frozen in connection with a lawsuit initiated by the Ukrainian firm Energoalians.
In a press release from the Ministry of Economy it said that the the bank accounts were frozen as a measure requested by a judicial enforcement officer to secure the payment of interests on a debt of over $20 million lei owed by RED-Nord. The Ministry specifies that the requested amount is almost two times bigger that what is owed.
The Ministry notes that it it has repeatedly solicited a more active engagement on the part of the Government, the Prosecutor's Office and the Supreme Magistracy Council to overcome the situation in which “a state-owned company is at first subjected to a dubious lawsuit and then attacked through a disproportionate measure by a private judicial enforcement officer(...) Only a firm position of the government bodies can stop the series of illegalities against RED-Nord”, the press release says.
