The economically active populace of Moldova represents approximately 1,258 million people, almost a third of Moldova’s entire population. According to the statistics provided by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the activity rate of the population aged 15 and older represented 42.9%, reaching higher levels among men – 46.7% and 39.5% for women. The activity rate of the urban population reached 46.1% and that of the rural population was of 40.5%. The highest activity rate was registered by the age group 45-49 (65.4%) and the age group 15-64 had an activity rate of 47.9%. According to date for the first quarter, the occupied population reached approximately 1186 thousand people, or 94.3% of the economically active populace. Moreover, the number of remunerated individuals was of 66.2% only. The structure of the population occupied, analysed according to age groups shows that the weight of people aged 25-54 constituted 74.2% of the total. The age group 15-24 represented 9.9%, while the age group 65 years and older – 3.1%. Four in five aged people were employed in agriculture.
