Ecologists were given one week to establish the source of the unpleasant smell in Chisinau and its suburbs. The issue was discussed in a meeting at the Ministry of Environment. Specialists take a number of hypotheses into account, including the dirty water in the Byk River, non-observance of the technological processes at the wastewater treatment station or emission of gases at waste dumps, IPN reports.

A working group was entrusted with the task of compiling the list of companies located along the Byk that discharge water, including pre-treated one.

Minister of Environment Valeriu Munteanu said he will request the Government to annul the moratorium on inspections so as to carry out checks at business entities whose irresponsible actions generate unpleasant smell.
