The Ecologist Movement of Moldova proposes instituting a platform for cooperation for resolving environmental issues. In a news conference at IPN, the Movement’s head Alecu Renita enumerated the most acute environmental problems, saying such a platform will help promote the conception of sustainable development in Moldova.
“The Ecologist Movement subscribes to all the approaches made by the Ministry of the Environment and calls on all those involved in the protection of the environment and the cultural heritage to make common cause and create a platform for cooperation so as to solve a large part of the ecological problems,” stated Alecu Renita.
In time, the Ecologist Movement collected a series of ecological cases that haven’t been solved. Among these are the cases concerning the Horodiste rocks, the cave “Emil Racovita”, the state protected areas, the Cahul-Giurgiulesti railway section, the valley “Valea Prutului de Mijloc”, industrial fishing, urbanism-related problems, small and medium-sized rivers, soils and waste. “I enumerated some of the problems in the hope that being together on the same platform, the environment authority and the Ecologist Movement will have more possibilities of solving a large part of the accumulated problems,” said the Movement’s head.
The members of the Ecologist Movement presented several steps that would change the irresponsible attitude of people to nature. Banning the extraction of sand from the riverbeds of the Prut and Nistru, abrogating the regulations on the leasing out of forests, strict regulation of industrial fishing and inclusion of ecological education in school programs are some of the solutions to the environmental problems.
“Large areas are taken out of the ecosystem by leasing out forests where economic entities erect houses and do other works. We will not manage to see green economy or sustainable development. We will rather witness the exhaustion of the natural resources and an energy collapse if we do not deal with the problem of green economy,” said ecologist Valentin Bobeica.
“Good environmental governance means active and responsible people, who know how to become involved, how to sensitize problems and to contribute to taking decisions. The environment authorities wait for the environment organizations and the ordinary people to make common cause when a particular goal needs to be pursued,” said Elena Scobioala, project assistant at the Ecologist Movement.
