Since 2011 and until present, the Ecological Fund has financed some 4,000 projects. Most of them concern water treatment, sewage and wastewater treatment, waste management and tree planting projects.

Civil society organizations, town halls, companies and anyone interested in implementing environmental projects are welcome to request financing, Elena Creanga, department head at the National Ecological Fund, has told IPN.

To receive a grant, the applicant should submit a project that will be subject to state technical and ecological assessment. In addition to the project, the application should also include the approval of the Ecological Fund's territorial agency, a letter of financial endorsement from the district council or a letter of guarantee pledging a financial contribution of 15 percent of the project's total costs.

The applicant should also present the assessment expenses, included in the mandatory 15% contribution. The contribution may be offered by the district council or any other donor.
