Eco-Tiras expresses concern about Moldovan-Ukrainian agreement on Nistru hydro-technical complex

The ecological situation of the Nistru River is crucial for the people of Moldova and Ukraine, and it cannot be subject of trading between states. The statement was made at a press conference by Ilya Trombitsky, head of Eco-Tiras Association. The NGO expressed its concern about the Moldovan-Ukrainian agreement regarding the Nistru hydro-technical complex, which is to be ratified by the Chisinau Parliament, Info-Prim Neo reports. The agreement stipulates the occupying of two Moldovan areas by Ukrainian energy enterprises. “The document must admit the negative impact of the hydro energy complex on the ecosystem of the Nistru River. It must include clear conditions meant to prevent this impact. In its current form, the agreement doesn’t stipulate any measures that would reduce the ecological damage to the lower course of the Nistru River and its ecosystems”, said Ilya Trombitsky, doctor of biology. “Ukraine gains the most from this deal, but we cannot accept it, because our mission is to protect the Nistru River. The agreement benefits only Ukraine’s interests”, added Ilya Trombitsky. Chisinau hopes this agreement would resume the process of official recognition of Moldovan properties on Ukrainian territory. The document was approved by the Moldovan Government on March 10.
