ECHR will announce judgment in case of Moldovan bank president

The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) will pronounce tomorrow, October 23, the judgment in the case filed by the president of the commercial bank Victoriabank, Victor Turcan, and the bank’s lawyer Dorel Turcan. In 2005 the plaintiffs were arrested on suspicion of conspiring to take a bribe. Both applicants complain that the Moldovan courts had not given relevant and sufficient reasons for their detention, in breach of Article 5 § 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights (right to liberty and security). Also tomorrow, ECHR will notify the judgment in the case of “Samson and Flux vs. Moldova”, which concerns violation of freedom of expression and right to respect for private and family life. In total the Court will announce Tuesday seven cases against the Moldovan Government.
