The European Court of Human Rights ordered Russia to pay € 126,000 as moral damages and € 5,000 as legal representation expenses to teachers, students and parents of four Romanian-language schools on the left bank of the Dniester. According to a Promo-LEX Association press release, the ECHR ruling was made public on September 17, IPN reports

"The European Court of Human Rights has issued 8 judgments concerning 17 cases on human rights violations in the Transnistrian region," the press release said.

According to the quoted source, the first ruling refers to the case of Iovcev and 13 others, against the Republic of Moldova and the Russian Federation. "The plaintiffs are teachers, employees, students and parents from four schools teaching in Latin script in the Transnistrian region: " Lucian Blaga "Theoretical High School from Tiraspol, " Mihai Eminescu" Theoretical High School from Dubăsari, "Stefan cel Mare si Sfant" Theoretical High School from Grigoriopol and the Gymnasium from Corjova village, Dubasari district”, specifies Promo-LEX.

The press release reiterates that, in February 2014, Ion Iovcev, director of "Lucian Blaga" Theoretical High School from Tiraspol, the accountant and the driver of the educational establishment were stopped by the Transnistrian militia and subsequently deprived of their liberty. They were accused of smuggling money, when they tried to pass the so-called customs with the teachers’ salaries.
