The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has found the Moldovan Government guilty in three more cases, in particular for violating the right to a fair trial. In the case of “Ceachir vs. Moldova”, the plaintiffs sought in 2002 compensations for the property taken from their parents during the Soviet Regime. They complained about the violation of the legal procedure. The Court admitted the complaint and confirmed the violation of Article 6 (right to a fair trial). In the case of “Rusu vs. Moldova”, the Government was found guilty of violating Article 6 and Article 1 of the Protocol no.1 (protection of property) to the European Convention for failing to ensure the execution of a final judgment to offer the plaintiff of a land plot transferred into collective property in the Soviet period. Another case, “Cravcenco vs. Moldova”, refers to a conflict at work. The Court decided that Articles 6 and 13 of the European Convention have been violated. In these cases the Government was obliged to pay damages totalling approximately 40.5 million euros. To date, the ECHR found Moldova guilty in over 100 cases, obliging it to pay damages totalling approximately 2 million euros. Since the beginning of 2008, the Government was found guilty in four cases examined by the Court in Strasbourg.
