EBRD will assist Moldova to strengthen investment climate

Prime Minster Iurie Leanca discussed a new initiative of cooperation between the Government of Moldova and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development with the EBRD Managing Director for External Action and Political Affairs Alan Rousso. The initiative envisages the improvement of the investment climate in Moldova and the creation of favorable conditions for developing businesses, IPN reports.

According to the Government’s press service, Iurie Leanca appreciated the EBRD’s contribution to developing different sectors of Moldova, including by providing financial assistance to implement projects to rehabilitate and build roads and water supply and sewerage systems and to expand the transport infrastructure, and by supporting the Economic Council working under the Prime Minister.

For his part, Alan Rousso said the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development is ready to continue the initiated projects and is examining new possibilities of supporting the reforms in Moldova, designed to contribute to the country’s socioeconomic development.

In this connection, it was agreed to promote a new initiative of cooperation between the Government of Moldova and the EBRD with a view to enhancing the investment climate and strengthening corporate governance in Moldova. The project will include measures to support the SMEs, to improve the legislative framework in the economic sector, to strengthen the capacities of the business associations and other aspects that will contribute to attracting investments to Moldova’s economy, using the platform of the Economic Council working under the Premier.
