It will become easier for inmates in Moldova’s prisons to have phone conversations and extended family or conjugal visits, after the Government on Thursday approved changes to prison rules, IPN reports.
In particular, inmates will be able to have extended visits from their domestic partners without the requirement of them having children together. To do jobs outside prisons, inmates will no longer be required to have the permission of the director of the Prisons Department; the consent of lower-ranking wardens will be enough.
Wheres at present the prison rules don’t explicitly specify the frequency and duration of phone calls inmates are allowed to make, this will change with the introduction of a list expressly stating the numbers for every category of inmates.
The new provisions will enter into effect with their publishing in the Official Gazette.
