Earthquake reported in Chisinau

An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale was recorded Wednesday, May 7, at 11:01 by the Seismology Station of the Geophysics Institute, connected to the Moldovan Academy of Sciences. Dr. Vasile Alcaz, the institute's director, has told Info-Prim Neo that this quake is quite uncommon for Moldova, with its epicenter originating somewhere beneath the Black Sea of Northern Turkey. The exact location is yet to be detected. Such earthquakes are very rare in Moldova and are registered perhaps once in a hundred years, Dr. Alcaz added. The tremor was felt intenser in the southern part of the country. In Chisinau the quake was measured at intensity 3-4 Richter scale. There were no immediate reports of damage or injury.
