Early parliamentary elections will take place on July 29
For the first time in Moldova, the legislative elections will be held on a working day. The elections will take place on Wednesday, July 29. The decree to dissolve the Parliament and organized early elections issued by outgoing President Vladimir Voronin takes effect today.
“The date and day are convenient for the ruling party. The experience shows that the turnout of voters in summer is two times lower. On a working day, only those that do not work will go to the polls, mainly pensioners who, according to surveys, vote for the PCRM,” political analyst Igor Botan, executive director of the Association for Participative Democracy ADEPT, has told Info-Prim Neo.
Speaking about the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin’s expectations to win 80 seats in the early elections, Igor Botan said that he does not think that the ruling party will poll so many votes. “By their behavior, they threw Moldova into a vicious circle. They act beyond their common sense, even if everything is correct from legal viewpoint.”
The analyst said that the parliamentary and extra-parliamentary Opposition parties have enough time for campaigning. “The parties will reiterate many of the promises from the previous campaign. It will be more difficult for the new parties like the one that Marian Lupu intends to launch.”
The Central Election Commission is to announce the start of the election campaign.
