Early elections might be avoided, Mihai Petrache
The early parliamentary elections may be avoided if Article 78 of the Constitution is modified by referendum, Mihai Petrache, former adviser to ex-President Petru Luchinski, said in Vasile Botnaru's program broadcast on Radio Free Europe, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Article 78 says that if the Parliament cannot vote in the head of state as a result of rerun elections, the Acting President dissolves the legislative body and announces new legislative elections. “If this paragraph is removed, anyone can say there is no constitutional reason to dissolve Parliament,”
Mihai Petrache said.
Asked if this is Mihai Ghimpu's trump, Mihai Petrache said the trumps will fall into a force of circumstance that will lead to the revision of the President's powers as well.
The constitutional referendum to modify the method of electing the head of state will take place on September 5.
