The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Lazar Comanescu and Minister of State for European Affairs of France Harlem Désir, who are the co-chairman of the European Action Group for Moldova (EAGM), appreciated the wisdom of President Nicolae Timofti, who helped overcome the difficult situation in the country. The two officials told the Head of State about their appreciation in a meeting on June 16, IPN reports.
According to the presidential press service, Nicolae Timofti reaffirmed Moldova’s commitment to implement the provisions of the Association Agreement with the EU as a priority matter.
Lazar Comanescu noted the symbolism of the current visit to Moldova, which is made only two weeks before the full coming into force of the Moldova – EU Association Agreement. “The advancement by Moldova on its path of European integration is our objective and we are glad to help you in this approach together with France and our European partners,” he stated, expressing his appreciation for President Timofti’s action during the crisis experienced by the country. “I’m sure that your contribution to Moldova’s European course will be a long-lasting one.”
For his part, Harlem Désir underlined the necessity of continuing doing European reforms, especially in such sectors as justice, banking, de-politicization of state institutions and the fight against high-level corruption.
In the context of the meeting, the French official announced that the Prime Minister of France Manuel Valls intends to visit Moldova.
The EAGM is an informal platform launched in 2010 by Romania and France, with the involvement of foreign affairs ministers from a number of EU member states. Opinions and ideas on the development of the relations between the EU and Moldova are exchanged within it.
